A tasting-menu evening in a converted mill isn't the obvious family choice, and at £55 a head for the Sunday lunch set menu it's a treat rather than a Tuesday, but the practical bits are sorted: high chairs, buggy access, a kids' menu and free parking (across the road from the Mill, not behind it — worth knowing with a pram). The open kitchen is the real winner with children, who can watch the chefs plate everything up. Food is Japanese-inspired and changes regularly — a celeriac course and trout with Amalfi chilli sauce both got raves — and portions land just right rather than mean. Service is generally warm and happy to explain dishes, though one family found a waiter dismissive when a course arrived cold. Book ahead, and come when everyone's patient.
