Set back from the road in the Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, this is a calm, bright spot that suits a morning out with the children — the museum and a big park are right there, and parking is free. The front terrace is generous, with plenty of room to park a pram beside a table, and high chairs are on hand inside. The menu goes well beyond café standards: french toast with fruit and clotted cream, Turkish-style eggs, halloumi wraps, ginger and pumpkin cake, plus proper vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free choices. The coffee is genuinely good, the staff are friendly and patient, and the toilets are clean. Two things worth knowing: prices feel steep to some, and food can be slow to arrive at busy times, so order before anyone gets hungry. Booking online is possible and worth doing.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
