A bright, airy room with plenty of space to park a pram and easy step-free access — the kind of place you can bring a toddler and a grandparent in the same trip without anyone struggling at the door. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and free parking outside, so the awkward bits are already sorted. The food is a proper cut above café standard: freshly grilled chicken in the sandwiches, homemade croutons and thick-cut bacon in the Caesar salad, a much-praised BLT, and quiche and salad that families come back for. Cakes are good, and there's a midweek half-price cake-and-drink deal worth timing a visit around. Afternoon tea is around £15 a head. The staff are patient and attentive, topping up tea without being asked. One snag: it's a hard-surfaced room, so it can get clattery when it's full.
