Reached by a short path off the street, it looks tiny from outside and then opens out into a proper room with plenty of tables — handy when you arrive with a pram and a toddler in tow. Buggy access, high chairs, a kids' menu and free parking are all sorted, and the staff are the sort who squeeze people in and then check on you all evening. It's a family-run place and it shows. Pizza comes out of an oven you can watch from some seats, which buys you a few minutes of distraction; the game pie with its flaky pastry and huge pile of potatoes and veg is the other thing people rave about, and the sticky toffee pudding with salted caramel is worth staying for. Lively rather than deafening, gently priced, and busy enough that booking is genuinely worth it.
