Tucked into the Parke estate, this is the sort of stop that works whether you've walked a mile or three. Order at the counter and they buzz you when it's ready, which spares you queueing with a fidgety toddler. Plenty of picnic tables outside, many shaded by parasols, so there's room to park a pram and let children spread out — with cosy indoor seating and local art on the walls when the weather turns. Portions are generous and genuinely local: the pork flatbread, mature cheddar with onion marmalade, and a proper cream tea with two good scones all get named again and again. Vegan options are unusually strong — crispy courgette and aubergine borani among them — and much of the sandwich menu can be made gluten free. Service is usually warm, though the odd visit lands flat.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
