A drink before a Coniston walk turns into something longer here — there are plenty of tables inside and outside, with views that families come back for year after year. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, plus a level free car park and clean toilets. Breakfasts are generous and freshly made, and the homemade burger, scampi and quiche all get big portions; the local handmade ice cream, milkshakes and cakes (the peach and turmeric one especially) are what children will be lobbying for. It's popular enough that you may queue to order, though food comes out fast once you have. The staff are chatty and welcoming, dogs included, and one family calls it a place that "never disappoints" — prices sit at what you'd expect in a tourist spot, for genuinely good food.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
