The Ridge Cafe
A laid-back Exeter cafe with a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating and vegan options — easy for a relaxed family visit.

Tucked just off the road up from Exeter, this is the sort of stop that turns a long drive to Cornwall into something the children actually look forward to. There's plenty of room inside — lots of tables, proper chairs, easy enough to get a pram past — and it's warm and unfussy rather than precious, so nobody minds a bit of noise. Portions are enormous and cheap, food arrives piping hot and fast, which matters when someone's already gone past the point of waiting. The big breakfast is the thing to order, fried bread included and somehow not greasy; the roasts and burgers get just as much love. Staff are genuinely patient — one parent's son changed his order five times and nothing was a problem. Free parking, clean toilets, outdoor seating, and Haldon Forest's walks right on the doorstep.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
