A birthday dinner or a Tuesday lunch both work here — the room is big enough to get a pram through without a fuss, and staff are the sort who'll talk you through the menu and happily tweak a dish for a fussy eater (the mushroom linguine with garlic, parsley and chilli gets adjusted to taste on request). Portions are decent: the lasagne and carbonara both come out generous, the truffled mushroom arancini and burnt butter potatoes get particular praise, and sticky toffee pudding is worth saving room for. Food generally arrives promptly, though puddings can lag. Vegetarian and vegan eaters are properly looked after. Worth booking — and worth mentioning if you'd rather not sit beside a large party, as the room gets loud when one's in. Music is kept low enough that, as one guest put it, "you can hear yourself".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.

Dramatic, grown-up Chinese that still does a kids' menu and high chairs — go for the dim sum platter, book ahead, and expect to spend.
Grand hotel-lobby setting with a kids' menu, high chairs and a much-praised prime rib burger — calmer by day than on busy entertainment nights.
