Open since 1924 in a 1700s building right in the middle of Norwich, this is a chippie with more going on than the usual. The basement "bunker" seats a crowd and has real atmosphere — food gets brought to your table, which helps enormously when a toddler is at the end of their patience. Portions are generous and the chips come out fresh and not greasy; the batter is properly crisp, and there's sea bass, whitebait, mackerel and even lobster if you want beyond cod. High chairs, a kids' menu and vegan options are all sorted. Large cod and chips runs around £17, so it's not the cheapest chippie, but the staff are pleasant and helpful and it's an easy walk to a coffee afterwards. One parent found "the freshest and most delicious fish" they'd had in ages.
