Tucked inside the village hall at the end of a Hackfall Woods walk, this is a small, volunteer-run café where the welcome does a lot of the work — on a busy cold spring day the team found extra seats rather than turn a family away. Everything is homemade and cheap: paninis that go beyond the usual (Emmenthal and portobello mushroom gets singled out), hot chocolate, and cakes that people travel back for, with one visitor saying the carrot cake tasted exactly like their grandma's. Gluten-free bread, cakes and scones are genuinely available and the staff will walk you through safe options — useful if someone in your group is coeliac. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, outdoor seating, buggy access and free parking, and dogs are welcome. It's small, so at peak walking times you may wait for a table.
