Restaurants · Penrith
There's a genuine riverside setting here, with plenty of room outside to spread out by the water and a cosy dining room for when Lake District weather does its thing. Tables inside are mostly spacious, though a few sit close together — worth angling for a window seat if you can. Staff are warm and accommodating, and food tends to arrive quickly, which matters when someone's patience is running out. The scones with clotted cream, the croque madame and the salt and pepper squid all get singled out; the fish and chips can be under-seasoned, so order around it. Breakfasts and American pancake stacks go down well with children. High chairs, a kids' menu, buggy access and free parking are all sorted, and one family liked it enough to come back "a couple of times during our holiday".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
