Tucked into the Granby Arcade, this is a small, plain, spotlessly clean café that rewards anyone tired of trailing round Bakewell looking for a proper breakfast rather than another overpriced slice of cake. Space is the main catch — it's genuinely cramped, so a pram is easier folded or parked outside, and it's worth timing your visit outside the lunch rush. What you get in return is real cooking to order: full breakfasts, bacon and egg baps, and Derbyshire oatcakes with cheese and beans that almost nowhere else in town does. The staff are warm with children and unusually good with allergies, happily making something off-menu for a dairy-free child. Coffee comes properly hot. High chairs, a kids' menu and a few outdoor seats. Prices divide people — some call it "excellent value", others find simple eggs on toast steep.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
