The Feather & Beak Brickfields
A well-rated York restaurant with outdoor seating, easygoing prices, and a warm welcome for families with children in tow.

Cafés · York
Tucked behind a small milk pail sign, this is the kind of stop that rewards a detour — a courtyard for sunny days plus an all-weather dome pod seating eight or so, which means a wriggly toddler and a pram aren't a problem whatever Yorkshire does with the weather. Inside is relaxed and comfortable, with a sofa area, fresh flowers and wood everywhere. The breakfast stack comes traditional or vegetarian, the cheese scones arrive warm with onion marmalade, and the spiced butternut squash soup gets singled out again and again. Coffee is genuinely good, alternative milks are stocked, and children get sparkling cordial with fresh fruit in it. The accessible toilet is spotless and roomy with two levels of bag hooks — one parent called it "fantastic for families with young children". Free parking on the high street. Kids' menu and high chairs available; the owners are warm and happy to accommodate special requests.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
