Right in the thick of Edinburgh's Old Town, this is a proper old pub with the kind of lively hum that means nobody notices a noisy toddler — though it also means it's not the spot for a quiet nap in the pram. Buggy access and high chairs are sorted, there's a kids' menu, and outdoor seating for when you need the air. The fish and chips is genuinely enormous at around £18 and easily shared between two children, the haggis draws real praise, and the sticky toffee pudding is worth the extra course. Bangers and mash and the chicken burger land well too, and the soups come out properly hot. Staff are generally friendly, though service can wobble when it's busy. Worth knowing: a 10% service charge gets added without mention. The toilets are clean, which counts for a lot.
