A calm, quiet spot near the station — no music playing, which makes it one of the easier places in town to sit with a small child who's had enough. It's cosy rather than roomy, with a lovely old brick ceiling, and there's a step down from the entrance into the dining room, so a pram takes some manoeuvring. High chairs, a kids' menu and plenty of vegan and vegetarian choices; the food is all home-cooked and changes daily. The soup and sandwich deal is properly good value, the quiches and the pork gnocchi get the most praise, and the cakes are worth saving room for. Two roomy unisex loos. Do note the hours are short — term time only, and it closes early afternoon — and the lunch rush from around 1pm fills every table, when service can slow.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
