Sushi in Brighton that manages to feel special without freezing children out — there's a kids' menu, high chairs, and room to get a pram in, and the staff are the sort who greet you at the door and keep an eye on the table. The room is genuinely lovely: art deco lines, soft lighting, a blossom tree in the corner that small children stare at. Food is the draw — tempura prawns, karaage chicken and squid, pork gyoza, miso aubergine, the black cod — with unusually good vegan and gluten-free options, right down to the veggie maki. Two honest snags: portions run small (order plenty of little plates rather than one main each), and it's high-end for the price bracket, wine especially. Book at busy times. One family had their son's birthday dessert decorated without asking — a small kindness that stuck.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
