Café · Ashbourne
Tucked in the middle of Ashbourne, this is the kind of warm, nicely decorated café that rescues a day out when the Tissington tearooms are shut. Portions are famously huge — one parent couldn't finish the full English even after handing over the hash browns — and the cooked breakfasts get the loudest praise, along with the local oatcakes, the award-winning sausages and a chocolate cake children apparently insist you mention. High chairs, a kids' menu and vegan options are all there, buggies get in without a fight, and there's outdoor seating for warmer days. The staff are patient and accommodating even at their busiest. Worth knowing: Saturday mornings are properly busy, tables can be booked out and food took around 15 minutes on one packed morning, so go early or ring ahead. Open evenings Thursday to Saturday for pizza and pasta too.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
