A short walk from Roath Park's flower gardens, this is a proper cafe-meets-greasy-spoon with parking round the back, so you can unload the pram without circling the streets. Families come for the full English — deep-fried sausages, grilled cherry tomatoes, a runny egg — and the tuna jacket potatoes with salad get a lot of love, as does the cake counter. It's pretty inside, dogs are welcome, and there's no thumping music, so you can actually hear each other across the table. Staff are attentive and, as one parent put it, "nothing was too much trouble", even on a bank holiday. Worth knowing: breakfasts can take twenty minutes or more at busy times, drinks sometimes arrive lukewarm, it's a little pricey for a cafe, and the menu doesn't flag gluten-free or vegetarian options, so ask.
