About Force Cafe & Terrace

Worth the short pull uphill from the middle of Ambleside — the reward is a terrace with a sliver of Windermere and the fells laid out below, plus free parking behind the offices (three hours when you eat), which in this town is close to a miracle. Inside is clean, modern and roomy, with plenty of seating, so a pram isn't a problem, and the staff are friendly and attentive without hovering. Brunch is the thing: loaded hash browns get raved about, and there are unusual twists like eggs Benedict with birria beef, plus properly substituted vegan dishes rather than something simply removed. Mains can run past £20, so it's not a cheap stop, and the outdoor benches are hard going without cushions. Food often arrives faster than the quoted wait. Stock Ghyll Force is a two-minute walk across the road.
