Set on a working farm just outside Middlesbrough, this is the kind of stop where the café is only half the appeal — there are pygmy goats and turkeys to look at, a stream and a children's play area further along the site, and views out to Roseberry Topping. The café itself is roomy and easy with a pram, and staff are friendly and quick to help. Breakfasts are the thing to come for: hearty sausages, properly cooked bacon, and a big plate at around £14 (a smaller one is £11). Scones are enormous and freshly baked, the BLTs and toasted sandwiches get plenty of praise, and a pot of tea for two is £6. One snag — it can queue out of the door at busy times, so go early. Free parking, high chairs, a kids' menu, and dogs welcome too.
