A proper old-school city pub near The Lanes, this one earns its keep with parents on the strength of two things: prices and patience. Food and a drink for under a fiver each is normal here, chips land at around £2, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs and step-free access for the pram. The team are genuinely good with big, chaotic groups — one visitor turned up at the last minute with a whole party and was still looked after. Sausage and mash is the safe traditional bet; the burgers get the loudest praise. Cosy corners and sports TV mean it's rarely silent, and quiz nights get properly lively, so lunchtime suits little ones better. Two honest snags: the kitchen can be hit and miss on seasoning, and the toilets aren't always well stocked.
