Handy if you're coming off a morning at Aira Force or walking near Glenridding — there's easy parking right out front (paid car park, plus limited one-hour spaces on the side roads), a proper outdoor seating area, and a cosy interior that families find comfortable rather than cramped. Portions are big and prices fair: the fish and chips gets particular praise for its light batter and the tartare sauce, and the Cumberland sausage, loaded fries, burgers and burrito all come recommended. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and vegan options, plus a cake display that will buy you ten minutes of peace. Water and cups are left out to help yourselves. The staff are warm — one parent called them "some of the nicest people" they met in the Lakes. Do check opening times before you set off; the website, Facebook and door sign don't always agree.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
