About Dragon Fly Café

Tucked upstairs in a toy store on the Fort, this is a café with a virtual reality arcade attached, and it works far better than that combination sounds. The room is bright and colourful, laid out with children in mind, and buggies get in easily with free parking below. Staff walk younger children onto every ride with constant reassurance — one parent's eight-year-old was talked through each one — and the 30-minute solo package is decent value. On the food side, the cakes are the thing: decorated with real care, and the tiramisu gets particular praise. The cheese on toast with caramelised onions is worth ordering. There's a kids' menu, high chairs and vegan options, plus board games to play while you eat. Worth booking ahead if you're bringing a birthday group, and be aware the VR tends to outshine the café.
