Cafés · Carrickfergus
Tucked behind an urban farm in the middle of Carrick, this is the rare café where the wait for food is entertainment rather than agony — there are goats, rabbits, chickens and ducks a few steps from the door, plus a children's play area with little houses and games inside and toys scattered outside. Windows look straight out over the animals, so buggies park up and small people stay occupied. The scones come out fresh and enormous, portions are big and good value, and the coffee is properly done. Staff are warm and unhurried; one group of seven watched them shuffle tables together rather than turn them away. It's busy at midday and the car park is small, though free. There's a garden centre and gift shop too — easy to lose an hour here.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
