Set on a working farm in the Campsie hills near Fintry, this is worth the drive out from Glasgow — the countryside views are half the outing, and there's free parking when you arrive. Inside it's several small rooms rather than one big space, cosy and nicely done, with a courtyard for outdoor seating when the weather plays along and chickens in a run that will occupy small children for a surprisingly long time. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and there are vegan options. The home baking is the draw — cakes, scones and an afternoon tea people come back for — plus simple hot dishes like soup and fajitas, fairly priced for the quality. The staff are genuinely warm and quick to squeeze people in. Two snags: it gets busy even midweek, and there's only one toilet per sex.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
