Tucked at the edge of the woodland on the Dalby Forest site, this is the sort of stop that rescues a walk or a bike ride when everyone's flagging. There's plenty of seating inside and out, so a pram isn't a problem, and the outdoor tables next to the trees are lovely when the little ones need to be noisy. Food arrives quickly — about ten minutes for a cooked breakfast — and portions are generous. The eggs benedict, steak and onion ciabatta and soup all get praise, as do the home-baked flapjacks and tiffin in the counter. Staff are friendly and clear about allergies, with gluten-free options handled well. Two snags: Forestry England parking is charged separately and isn't cheap, and it closes at 3pm, so don't leave the walk too late.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
