Come here on a good night and it's the kind of relaxed family meal you hope for — no rush on table timings, staff who make a fuss of birthdays, high chairs and a kids' menu, and a level entrance with buggy access. Big groups are handled well: one table of fourteen had every dish arrive together and correct, with the kitchen careful about allergies. The vegan glazed aubergine gets particular praise, the chicken is nicely seasoned, and the sticky toffee pudding is worth the extra course. Set menus around £22 for three courses take the sting out of the bill. Two honest snags: service can wobble when it's busy, with long waits and mixed-up orders on off nights, and the upstairs room is up a spiral staircase — ask for downstairs when you book with a pram. Outdoor seating for warmer days, and dogs are welcome.
