Tucked away near the country park at Fairlight, this is the sort of place you'd drive straight past without knowing — a shame, because it handles families well. It's roomy enough for a buggy, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and the staff actually talk to children rather than just tolerating them. Tables look out over the garden, the park and the sea, and there's outdoor seating for warmer days. Cheese scones with pickle, home-baked cakes and a proper full English draw the most praise, and the vegan cakes are moist without being sickly. Dogs get biscuits too. Parking is free but only fits three or four cars, so come early at weekends. Mostly good value, though one parent found £7 steep for a sandwich and the coffee divides opinion.
