The Bentley Brook Inn
Countryside inn near Ashbourne with a much-loved carvery, kids' menu, high chairs, free parking and warm, patient staff.

British · Ashbourne
A proper country pub right in the middle of town, with a roaring fire in colder months and hearty home cooking that families keep coming back for. Big groups do well here — several parents mention reserving a long table for two families and having a genuinely good evening. There's a kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and free parking, and the welcome from behind the bar is usually warm, though one visitor found the service flat on an off day. Portions are generous: the Sunday roast comes with a huge homemade Yorkshire and fresh veg (pricey, but people say it's worth it), and the lamb burger, BBQ ribs and chocolate sponge pudding get real praise. Coeliac diners get plenty of choice. Two snags — food can be slow when it's busy, and the outdoor seating is at the front next to the main road, so no enclosed garden for toddlers.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
