Cafés · Newtownards
Set beside Newtownards Airfield, this one comes with a view most cafés can't match — small planes taking off, Scrabo Tower in the distance, and the Floodgates Coastal Walk right on the doorstep, which makes it an easy lunch stop after a leg-stretch with the buggy. Inside it's open and aviation-themed, with old airfield photos on the walls; free parking, high chairs and a kids' menu take the friction out of arriving. In warmer months there's outdoor seating and a covered food trailer doing coffee, snacks and ice-cream — a spot where children can potter while you sit. The tatty bread fritter and the BBQ pulled pork come in for particular praise, and the Irish fry is the real thing. Staff are consistently described as lovely. Worth knowing: around £16 a plate, and Sunday lunch has been hit and miss.
