A big car park out front and step-free access make this an easy one to land at with a pram, and with a kids' menu, high chairs and prices in the pound-sign bracket, it's a low-stakes weeknight dinner rather than an occasion. The room is cosy and warmly lit, with music kept low enough to talk over, and when the kitchen is on form the food comes out properly hot — fish and chips, onion rings and garlic bread all get a good word, and the cheese burger spring rolls have their own devoted following among long-time regulars. Be aware the pub has changed hands and the kitchen has been patchy since: some families have had cold plates and long waits, others say the food is excellent value and the welcome genuine. Worth knowing too that it shuts around 9pm, so make it an early one.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
