Tucked inside the Airbus site at Hawarden, this café comes with a genuine spectacle attached — the runway is right there, and children can watch small aircraft come and go while they wait, with the enormous Beluga transport landing at set times (worth checking before you set off). There's a fenced outdoor area at the back with picnic tables and a little play area, so nobody has to sit still for long. Food arrives fast and is good value: breakfasts get particular praise, plus cakes, ice creams and smoothies, and there are vegan choices and a kids' menu. Parking is free right outside, though you stop at a security barrier and give your surname first, which feels odd but takes a moment. Booking is sensible — tables get reserved. The outdoor area is looking a bit tired, and substitutions aren't as flexible as they once were.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
