About Chinatown Express

Six tables and a few stools by the window is the whole of it, so this is a squeeze-in-and-order sort of place rather than a spread-out lunch — worth knowing if you've got a pram, though buggy access is there and high chairs are available alongside a kids' menu. What it does brilliantly is speed: food lands fast, which matters enormously when someone's hit the wall. Portions are generous and prices sit around £10 a dish. Families rave about the Singapore vermicelli noodles, salt and chilli spare ribs, prawn crispy noodles and the roast duck, and the open kitchen visible from the street is reassuringly spotless. It gets busy and noisy, service can be brisk to the point of blunt on an off day, and the odd takeaway order has landed greasy — but most walk out very happy.
