A proper pub setup with a separate restaurant room away from the busier bar, which matters when you've got a pram to park and a toddler who won't sit still — buggy access is fine, there are high chairs, a kids' menu and free parking, plus beer gardens for warmer days. The Sunday carvery is the thing people come back for, month after month: roast beef cooked properly, firm veg, generous plates. Coeliac families are unusually well served here, with a long list of naturally gluten-free dishes rather than bits scraped off a plate, and staff who ask about allergies before you have to. Table service throughout means less queueing with children in tow. Worth knowing: it's busy after 6pm, and a few have found the fish and chips a touch dry.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
