The Bell
A pub in a 15th-century Thetford coaching inn, with classic rooms and a rumoured ghost or two to keep the kids intrigued.

Steak house · Thetford
Tucked away in the middle of Thetford, this is a Portuguese-flavoured grill where you cook your own steak on a hot stone at the table — genuinely fun for older children, though worth knowing the stones are seriously hot, so littler ones are better off with the kids' menu. High chairs are there, parking is free, and the team are warm and attentive without hovering; food tends to arrive quickly, which helps when patience is running short. The rump steak with peppercorn sauce and the king prawns in a rich sauce get the most praise, portions are generous, and there's a shaded back terrace for warm evenings. Two honest snags: it's small and quite dark inside, so a pram will be awkward at a busy time, and it's not cheap — though one parent reckoned "for what you're eating it makes sense".

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
