Tucked in the village a short walk from the castle, this is the kind of stop that fills everyone up before a windy afternoon on the cliffs. The bakery side does the heavy lifting — scones that arrive warm from the oven with a genuinely generous heap of clotted cream, turmeric-and-onion bread people remember weeks later, and a millionaire brownie in the front counter display that's hard to walk past. Portions are mostly generous, though one or two have found them small for the price. The menu mixes British classics with Asian flavours, so fussier eaters and vegans both get a look-in, and there's a kids' menu, high chairs and buggy access. It gets very busy and tables sit close together, so the outdoor seats are your friend with a pram. The hot chocolate — proper hot, whipped cream, marshmallows — is worth the trip alone.
