Tucked into a historic building with plenty of stories in the brickwork, this is the sort of Kendal spot where arriving late and flustered doesn't seem to bother anyone — the staff are quick, warm and unhurried with children. Buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu are all sorted, and there are books and toys to keep small hands busy while food arrives. The kids' sandwiches use proper ham rather than the cheap stuff, and portions are good value. Homemade soup with a side salad is the thing regulars order every time, followed by cake — carrot, pineapple upside down, or something from the gateaux counter. Burgers are generous, though the frozen fries alongside let them down a little. Tables and chairs are a bit tired but comfortable, and you can sit outside in decent weather. Dogs welcome too.
