Tucked into the corner of an industrial estate outside Durham, this is a spacious place with plenty of tables — easy going with a pram, and free parking right there, which takes the stress out of the arrival. Meals are cooked fresh in front of you, so there's something to watch while everyone waits, and portions are generous enough that a breakfast keeps you full for hours. Jacket potatoes come out of a proper spud oven, there are gluten-free options, and the weekly wrap special with chips gets rave notices. Prices are genuinely low — one family had two cooked plates, two coffees and cakes for £22. The staff come up warmly again and again, patient and helpful. It gets busy at peak times, and the coffee is the one thing that could be better; the tea, by contrast, is strong and properly made.
