A coaching inn just outside Brecon that turns out to be far easier with children than its smart look suggests. Parking is free and buggy access is straightforward, there are high chairs and a kids' menu, and when one family arrived without spotting the children's options the kitchen simply adapted a main for their son without any fuss. The cooking is the real draw — 24-hour confit lamb shoulder, sirloin served pink, light crispy Yorkshires and generous veg on Sundays, and a sticky toffee pudding worth sharing. Outdoor seating helps on a fine day, and dogs are welcome too. It's calmer than staying in Brecon itself, handy for the Beacons and the Black Mountain. Sunday lunch is popular enough that one family booked their return visit before leaving, so ring ahead at weekends.
