Sat right on the edge of the lake, this is the kind of stop that works when everyone needs feeding and a leg stretch in the same hour. The room is clean, modern and genuinely spacious — no shuffling a pram between tables — with high chairs, a kids' menu and a bit of outdoor seating close to the water. Parking is free, and the lake path starts and finishes at the door, so you can walk off lunch. The food is hearty and simple: the big breakfast draws real praise for its bacon, the breakfast wrap and omelette are reliably good, and the millionaire's shortbread has people stopping again on the way home. Coffee is a cut above — one visitor rated the oat latte as city-barista standard. It's community-run and unfussy rather than atmospheric, but staff are warm, dogs are welcome, and prices are kind.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
