Old Arcade
Characterful Cardiff city-centre pub with a kids' menu, high chairs, a famous cheeseburger, and a lively sports crowd on match days.

Italian · Cardiff
Book ahead — this is a small, popular spot and people get turned away politely all afternoon, especially on sunny Saturdays when the terrace fills. Inside it's compact but well laid out, more Italian bistro than big family dining room, so it suits a pram parked at the end of a table better than a fleet of them; high chairs and a kids' menu are there, and there's outdoor seating if you'd rather have the wriggle room. The team is the reason regulars keep coming back — attentive without hovering, checking in through the meal, and genuinely good with allergies and coeliac diners when you flag it on arrival. Food is cooked from scratch, so allow around 15 minutes: the carbonara comes loaded with pancetta, the margherita and daily specials go down well, and some tables can watch it all being prepared. Not cheap, but it feels like real value.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
