Warm, family-friendly Cambridge Italian with fast service, generous portions, light pizza bases and an unusually good gluten-free menu.

Café · Cambridge
Tucked in among the shops on Mill Road, this is a small, warm room where the couple running it seem genuinely pleased to see you — they'll shift tables around and check the heating is right, which counts for a lot with a pushchair in tow. Breakfast is the thing: shakshuka, menemen with sujuk, a Mediterranean spread around £11, and paninis so generously filled they'll easily feed a child alongside you. Food arrives quickly and portions are fair for the price. High chairs, a kids' menu, vegan and gluten-free options are all there, plus a few outdoor tables. Do go early or on a weekday — one family found it "quite busy" with only the last table free, and it's cramped when full. Parking means hunting for a side street. Save room for the vegan baklava or the baklava cheesecake.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
