A bright, spotless play café for under-6s with a big soft-grass toy area, kids' menu, free parking and excellent cakes.

Allensford Park makes an easy morning out — free parking on both sides of the play area, a newer play space and toilets with baby change, and a river walk that starts to the left of the map. The café itself does proper cooked food: all-day breakfasts with toast, cheese quiche with salad and chips, burgers, and pancakes with fruit that families order in rounds. The coffee is unusually good for a countryside stop, and the ice cream bar draws a long queue on sunny weekends — worth the wait, but go off-peak if your children can't stand still. Staff stay friendly even when the place is full of families. High chairs, a kids' menu and outdoor seating are all there, and it's dog friendly down to doggy ice cream. One warning: the park gets very muddy, so bring wellies.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
