Banana Tree Cardiff
Warm, calm Southeast Asian spot with kids' menu, high chairs, buggy access and fast, patient service — fritters and noodles are the winners.

Tucked inside the Marriott, this is a smarter, more grown-up dining room than you might expect to bring children into — but the wide hotel entrance means a pram rolls straight in, and high chairs, a kids' menu and vegan options are all sorted. The lunch and early evening set menu is where the value sits, alongside a £17 brunch with juice and a hot drink included, so a family meal here needn't cost the earth. The beef croquettes and seafood platter get the most praise, the scallops especially, and the fillet steak arrives properly cooked. Two honest snags: service can be polite but slow to check back, so order everything at once if you're on a countdown, and the Sunday roast is a gamble. Staff are lovely with celebrations. Outdoor seating helps on a fidgety day.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
