A community hub on the edge of Edinburgh with a balcony you'll want on any sunny day, and a kids' play area that buys you ten minutes of hot coffee. Everything's home-cooked — the tomato lentil soup gets raved about, along with paninis, baked potatoes with soup, a rotating stew special, and roughly eight sweet things at the counter (the oat coconut slice has a following). Portions are generous and prices genuinely low: two mains, a panini, drinks and cake came to around £35. Service is quick and the staff chat without hovering. Two honest snags — inside is small, about six tables and twenty seats, so it's tight with a buggy at busy times and worth heading outdoors if you can; and it sits beside a main road, though the traffic fades to background hum. Free parking, high chairs, vegan options, and a museum to wander round after.
