A grand French brasserie inside The Balmoral, so it's a special-occasion sort of lunch rather than a casual drop-in — but the staff make it work with children. High chairs, a kids' menu and buggy access are all here, and the service is the thing people talk about most: attentive from the moment you walk in, patient, and quick to bring something over unprompted (one table who'd only ordered drinks got snacks brought out anyway). The room is gorgeous and gets lively, sometimes with live music, and at busy times tables go fast — worth booking rather than chancing it. Food-wise, the onion soup, tournedos Rossini and the crème brûlée come up again and again, and coeliac diners are looked after properly. Be warned: prices are steep, £5 for a glass of juice.

A little something creative for your next meal out. Filled with colouring, simple drawing prompts for cute animals, origami and conversation starters designed to bring more play, laughter and connection to the table. 3 free printable packs for toddlers, preschoolers and primary-aged children.
