Tucked away on the North Yorkshire moors, this one is a proper drive out — but the journey is half the pleasure, and the village itself is beautifully laid out and worth a wander with children in tow. Inside it's spacious and calm, with free parking, buggy access, high chairs and a kids' menu, plus outdoor tables when the weather plays along. Much of the food is made on site, including their own cheese, and the bacon and egg sandwich with a good coffee comes up again and again. Portions are generous and prices genuinely fair for what arrives. The staff are unfailingly polite, and the café runs as a working community for the village's residents, which gives the whole place a warmth you can feel. There's a well-stocked shop with a gift section too — handy for occupying small people after lunch.
