Perched with big glass walls looking out over the countryside, this farmhouse café and shop trades on its view and gets away with it. There's genuine room to spread out — plenty of space inside and out, so a pram isn't a problem, and there's a large free car park. The staff work hard to turn tables and keep things clean, and food comes out quickly, which matters when someone's hungry and cross. Portions are generous: the chip butty is enormous, the Sunday roast bigger still, and the steak sandwiches get raved about. Prices sit slightly above the average, but the little things — proper butter, decent jam — go some way to explaining it. Two snags worth knowing: you can't book, so you arrive and queue, and it gets genuinely busy. Coeliac families have had a frustrating time here.
