Tucked along St James Street, this is a small, simply decorated room with a few tables inside and a more spacious seating area out the back — plants, outdoor heaters, and enough space to park a pram without apologising to anyone. High chairs and a kids' menu are there when you need them, and there are vegan options too. The staff have a reputation for going out of their way; one visitor sheltering from Brighton rain was quietly let to sit and work in the dry. Breakfast is the strong suit — fluffy scrambled eggs, eggs benedict, freshly squeezed orange juice — while later on the fish and chips and burgers get real praise, and portions are decent. Food usually arrives quickly, though on a busy night one family waited 45 minutes. Prices sit slightly above the street average, but the cooking earns it.
