The Red Lion
Historic beamed pub in Southampton with a kids' menu, high chairs and outdoor seating — the fish and chips is the thing to order.

A city-centre coffee spot that's grown a reputation on TikTok for its matcha, but what makes it work with children is quieter than that: it's genuinely calm inside, not the constant clatter of a Costa, and the seating is spaced out enough to park a pram without apologising to anyone. The entrance looks small and then opens up — beanbags, armchairs, soft lighting, room to settle. High chairs and a kids' menu are available. The coffee is properly made, with cappuccino foam that holds, and the tiramisu cake and coffee cake get singled out again and again. Worth knowing: the drinks and desserts run sweet, and there are pastries rather than sandwiches, so it's a cake-and-a-drink stop rather than lunch. Around £6 for a tea and a pudding. One parent calls it their "favourite cafe to truly relax in".
